Remo Drive Performs at Larimer Lounge
Monday 23 October – At Larimer Lounge, Remo Drive offered a night filled with lively alternative punk rock sounds. Taking the stage by storm, and leaving the crowd amped hours after, Remo Drive, hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, created an unforgettable musical experience.
The band formed based on a shared love for retro sounds and classic rock. With influences from grunge and, specifically, The Police, Remo Drive created an energetic and upbeat set. The energy from Erik Paulson’s vocals and the mathematic guitar chords by Zack Cummings and Stephen Paulson spread through the crowd, connecting strangers alike. The familiar sound they’ve come up with, reminiscent of Green Day and Nirvana, allows their listeners to bond and become comfortable with people they’ve never met during the show.
From the Twin Cities, Remo Drive will continue their first US tour, playing songs from their latest album, Greatest Hits. “I’m My Own Doctor” and “Art School” are two of the most popular on the album that get the crowd involved and excited.
Stephen Paulson, bassist of Remo Drive, said “It’s cool because people come and music is kind of an escape from everything.”
Their current tour throughout the US has brought listeners together in intimate venues, making the concert experience infinitely more enjoyable. During the show, the band covered When You Were Young, by The Killers, a song everyone in the crowd knew word for word and was overjoyed to hear.
Duncan Roberts, a junior at the University of Denver, said “it’s like I’m getting a new perspective,” when listening to the music.
Students taking a break from their studies and young working folk come to Larimer Lounge to let loose, every night of the week. Offering a cavernous back stageroom strung with twinkling lights, just beyond the bar, The Lounge is an escape for alternative, punk-loving Denverites.
Following the performance, the band lingered to talk with their fans. More than photos and autographs, the members held conversation with their followers. Unlike artists and bands that sell out large venues, Larimer Lounge hones community and attracts alternative artists that still have time for their supporters.
Located in Denver’s RiNo art district downtown, The Lounge is a popular bar and music venue aimed at revitalizing the underground alternative music scene. The spot creates an intimate experience, only offering space for just over 100 in the stage room, the perfect escape for a student like Roberts. The bar has been catalyst for RiNo’s growth, helping to shape the Denver art and music scene. With performers every day, and staying open until 2 am, there is always something happening to be a part of at the Lounge.
There is more to come from Remo Drive, and a final stop in Omaha, NE, after Denver. Their growing fame will only bring more fans “emo for Remo,” to share their love of new punk.
